Based on a real case that shook Argentina, Belén follows this woman — known only by that name, to protect her identity — and Soledad Deza, the lawyer who takes up her defence against a legal system determined to make an example of her.

Dolores Fonzi directs and stars in her second feature, adapted from Ana Correa's book "Somos Belén". She films the cell and the courtroom with urgency and clear-eyed anger, but her real subject is the current of solidarity that gathers around one woman — the neighbours, activists and strangers who refuse to let her disappear. A private catastrophe becomes a turning point in a country's reckoning with the right to decide over one's own body.

Premiered at San Sebastián Film Festival, where Camila Plaate won the Silver Shell for Best Supporting Performance, and chosen as Argentina's candidate for the Oscars, Belén is a fierce, moving tribute to collective struggle and the stubborn power of women standing together.
