The Beloved

Reuniting the team behind As bestas, Rodrigo Sorogoyen and co-writer Isabel Peña turn a film shoot into a chamber of emotional warfare — and a reckoning with the myth of the male genius whose cruelty art has always been so quick to forgive.
Premiered in Competition at Cannes, The Beloved is a tense, unsparing drama of abandonment, guilt, and everything a father never learned to say.
The film will be introduced by a video intro of scriptwriter Isabel Peña
Esteban Martínez is a giant of the cinema — a director revered for his films and feared for the violence and excess that built his legend. When he offers a part to Emilia, the daughter he walked out on more than a decade ago and has barely seen since, it looks like the beginning of a reconciliation.
He casts her in his new film, ostensibly to revive her stalled career as an actress. But on set, where he is god and she is his creation, the old wounds reopen, and the line between directing and dominating, between love and control, quietly dissolves.
