Son of the Bride (2001)

Directed by Juan José Campanella and led by a superb Ricardo Darín, with Héctor Alterio and Norma Aleandro as his parents, El hijo de la novia is warm, funny and quietly devastating — a story of memory, family and second chances that became one of the best-loved Argentine films of its era and earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
A quarter of a century on, we present it in a special 25th anniversary screening: the chance to fall for a modern classic all over again, on the big screen.
Rafael Belvedere has spent his life running the family restaurant his parents built, and somewhere along the way he has let everything else slip: his marriage is over, he barely sees his young daughter, he keeps his patient girlfriend at arm's length, and he rarely visits his ageing mother, now lost to Alzheimer's in a care home. Then a heart attack stops him in his tracks.
Forced at last to slow down and take stock, Rafael listens as his elderly father Nino confides a final wish — to give Norma, the love of his life, the church wedding the two of them never had all those years ago. Helping his father chase that impossible, tender dream, Rafael slowly finds his way back to the people, and the life, he had almost let disappear.
