Never Look Back (Pa'trás, ni pa'tomar impulso)

En kvinne med en lang grønn, flagrende kjole husker på et huskestativ. Bak står det en gutt på en hest.

Oslo International Flamenco Festival and Tilde Filmklubb present this journey into the void as dancer Carmen Mesa crosses the ocean to disembark in Buenos Aires on her way to the Andes.

The Andes and Flamenco merge together in «Never Look Back» (Pa’Trás Ni Pa’Tomar Impulso), a journey that shows the strength and passion of Carmen, a brave Andalusian who, like other women, emigrates and pursues a dream in a new country. A complicated sentimental life and the baggage of family and friends left behind will not make it easy for her to achieve her dream of transmitting her art. She will be tapping along the dusty roads of the Andes, the Qom communities where she teaches Flamenco to dedicated girls or the bustling Buenos Aires.

An unyielding persistence and a road full of adventures will lead her to understand the essence of her life and her greatest strength, in a film that shows the intensity of the creative process of Flamenco dance.

The sublime Carmen Mesa is the absolute protagonist of this film that dances between documentary and fiction as freely and with as much energy as she has. The director Lupe Pérez García (recipient of the best director award at the Seville Festival in 2021), who 20 years ago, took the opposite path to Carmen, from Argentina to Spain, captures with great truth the always forward journey of her protagonist.

After the film we will hold a round table with members of the Northern Flamenco Network to discuss themes of migration, diaspora and cultural heritage and we will finish the evening with a musical contribution by guitarist Yannick Corre.
