This documentary from NRK takes you on a journey through the history of Norwegian black metal from the early eighties trough musical innovation, image building, murder, suicide and church burnings, and international recognition. With more focus on the history of the music and people involved, rather than just the scandals – this is a mini-series that handles the subject with respect and understanding.

We will screen the complete documentary with English subtitles. After the documentary curator, writer and black metal enthusiast Finn Håkon Rødland will lead us through a panel debate and a Q&A with the makers and participants of the documentary for an hour. Several musicians from the early scene will participate – like Marius Vold (Mortem, ex-Thorns, ex-Arcturus), Tore Bratseth (The Batallion, Old Funeral) and Torben Grue (ex-Mayhem, ex-Vomit) – and directors Thomas Alkärr and Håvard Bråthen. This will be the definitive deep dive into the history of Norwegian black metal.
