Starting this year, any production that wants a shot at Best Picture is required to check off at least 2 of the 4 newly developed Academy Inclusion Standards.

Is the Oscars’ newfound commitment to Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) the real deal or just another publicity stunt? What does it mean for the future of Hollywood — and how does Norway fit into this?

Join the Oscar-debatt at Vega Scene on March 18, 2024 to find out! Together with film and D&I experts, we are going to break down the results of the 96th Academy Awards — and see how they reflect (or not?) the current representation trends.

OUR PANELISTS ARE:

Mads Halvorsen (He/Him), Film & Oscars Expert
Mads is a graduate of the film studies programme at NTNU, and has worked in a variety of film related fields, including festivals, film production and journalism. He was a writer for Filmmagasinet from 2017-2021, and features as the “Oscar expert” on Montages’ podcast Filmfrelst every award season. He currently works in film distribution.

Chisom Udeze (She/Her), DEIB Strategist, Economist & Founder of Diversify & HerSpace
Chisom is a seasoned economist and three-time founder. She brings over 14 years of leadership experience, driving organizational change and sustainable impact. With a global perspective from working in seven countries across three continents, she excels in uncertain environments. As the founder of Diversify and Diversify Consult, she spearheads the development of sustainable Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) strategies for companies, governments, and civil society. Notably, Diversify launched the Diversify Nordics Summit in 2022, a significant conference advancing DEIB in the Nordics. Chisom's commitment to inclusivity extends to HerSpace, a co-creation community, and HerTech, a Women in Tech incubator launched in 2022, prioritizing diversity in leadership.

Nedin Mutic (He/Him), Senior Adviser, Norsk filminstitutt
Nedin has been working in film and storytelling industries for the past 15 years. He is a Senior Adviser - talent, screenwriting, diversity and inclusion at the Norwegian Film Institute. He aspires to push and challenge the film industry to be more diverse, inclusive, sharing, caring, relevant & innovative.

Hanna Crombie Nes is a Canadian/Norwegian arts administrator and performer finishing up her MA in IMK’s Screen Cultures program. A graduate of McGill University’s Honours History and World Cinema programs, Nes combines her academic background with her work in cultural organizations and theatrical performance.
